Jim Ryles

Jim Ryals, a life long resident of Glen Rose, was one of the primary residents who extract some of the best human tracks including giant human tracks. He claimed to have extracted at least 100 dinosaur and around 15 human tracks from the river bed throughout his lifetime.
The following is excerpted from an interview that took place in the late 1960’s. Mr. Royals was being questioned about human tracks he had removed from the Paluxy River. He was also asked specifically about a human track that he removed and sold to a doctor local.

Jim Ryals was one of the main men who helped Roland T. Bird locate dinosaur tracks in the park.

  1. I went to see Mr. McFall in the early 60’s. I was a pre-med student at Arlington State College. I had read the paper or heard from my relatives in Glen Rose at the Hart historic rock house on the Brazos River,
that Mr. McFall had a human footprint in stone with a dinosaur print too. I went to see him and he treated me very nice. He took me to the Paluxy river and showed me how to press my thumb in the blue clay to make an imprint. You had to press hard. Then he showed me a round rock that was leaning on a tree at his house that had both prints imbedded and separated in the stone. The human print was above and to the left side a little from the D. Print. It was a print about my size, 13, and appeared to have what I would call some type of skin wrapped around it. It appeared worn and had about 3, 1 inch wide bands around the foot. To my mind, it couldn’t have been carved in the stone with the skin wrapped impressions on it. I always wondered what happened to that stone? The pictures on the internet don’t show this one as far as I can find. Thank you.
